Thumb Butte Festimva

Call To All…

Artists, Actors, Dancers, Musicians, Poets, Writers, Theatre Groups, Museums, Heritage Groups, Cowpunchers, and Art and Culture Organizations!

You are invited to apply for participation in the
“Best of Arizona” 2010 Thumb Butte Festival
Prescott’s Premier Art & Heritage Celebration

On behalf of the Prescott Area Arts & Humanities Council it is my pleasure to invite you to apply for participation in our 6th Annual “Best of Arizona” Thumb Butte Festival.

The kick off for this city-wide celebration is on Friday, September 24th. The festival will continue on Saturday, September 25th, and Sunday, September 26th, from 10 am - 4 pm with a FREE self guided tour that includes music &
dance performances, staged readings, reenactments, museum & heritage venues, artist demonstrations, and more! This highly successful signature event continues to build on our past and present culture in a collaborative manner. Our mission is to provide a festival that brings together individuals, groups, and organizations from our rich art, culture, and heritage community, along with business people who wish to participate for the purpose of educating the public and promoting Prescott as cultural tourist destination.

The festival is promoted locally and state wide, however it has been proven that the most effective promotion is the result of participation from a huge variety of venues. The “Best of Arizona” Thumb Butte Festival is a stellar example of what can result when a large number of people in our community make the choice to engage in a collaborative effort!

We are working with the Arizona State Department of Tourism to further develop the 2010 festival into one of three state sponsored “BEST OF ARIZONA” STATE CENTENNIAL events. Prescott’s State Centennial slogan is “Where It All Began.” How appropriate that the Thumb Butte Festival will serve as the first “Best of Arizona” event to kick off the ARIZONA STATE CENTENNIAL during the 3rd weekend of September, 2011. The 2nd “Best of Arizona” event is scheduled to take place in Tucson, and Phoenix will host the 3rd event in February of 2012.

With sponsorship from the State Centennial Commission and the State Department of Tourism, plus local support from the City of Prescott and the City and County Centennial Committees, the 2011 festival will include a Street Fair “Block Party” to take place around the Plaza and Central Historic District. Plans include spotlighting appearances of nationally known entertainers who reside in AZ as well as other visiting headliners and activities in addition to showcasing museums and heritage groups, cowpunchers, local artists, and performance groups.

To help insure participation in the 2011 “Best of Arizona” Thumb Butte Festival, all groups and organizations who are planning Centennial Events are encouraged to participate in some manner during the 2010 festival. The festival this year (2010) will help serve as a rehearsal for the 2011 “Best of Arizona” Thumb Butte Festival. Representatives from the Arizona State Department of Tourism will attend the festival this September to help determine a template for the 2011 “Best of Arizona” Thumb Butte Festival. Participation is also a fabulous opportunity to promote your Centennial events that may be scheduled thru most of 2012.

By pulling together multiple resources, we continue to offer this wonderful opportunity to market your venue at a very low cost. Additional information is available in the attached application.

The “Best of Arizona” Thumb Butte Festival committee looks forward to your participation in this signature event!

Prescott Art Docents Offer a new Web-Based Service to the Community

The Prescott Art Docents, who share the love of art with children and adults in our community, have expanded their community outreach program to include the newly redesigned website www.prescottartdocents.com. This site provides fun-filled yet educational art lessons for elementary school children.

As the Prescott Art Docents have a limited number of volunteers, they needed a way to increase their ability to serve more of the children in the Quad-City area. They realized that schools are in a transition period. Today’s schools systems are now leveraging the vast amount of information found on the internet to support their educational goals. To meet the needs of how students learn, and to make art education programs available to a wider student audience, the Docents felt a virtual “masterpiece program” was an answer. MORE INFO»
